Adele Petigru Allston papers, 1830-1898.

Papers consist mainly of business and personal correspondence of Adele Petigru Allston, but also include her diaries, financial records, journals, notes, school papers of students, and an advertisement and account book (1866-1868) for Mrs. R.F.W. Allston's Boarding and Day School for Young Ladies. Factors' letters (1877-1898) to Allston are from Lachicotte & Sons, and others, and concern rice sales, milling, and planting. Personal correspondence is primarily with family members and concerns family and social matters, plantation life, servants, travels, the Civil War, financial concerns, education, the bombardment of Ft. Sumter (1861), and other matters. Correspondents include Benjamin Allston (1833-1900), Charles Petigru Allston (1848-1922), Adele Allston Vanderhorst (1840-1915), Robert F.W.
